Comic
books area amazing because of the amount of content within them and the endless
amount of stories that can be told and interwoven characters appearing
throughout each others tales and having overlapping storylines. It is what
makes the genre great and help create a universe within the publishers mythos
of characters. Translating that into film can be quite tricky but can be pulled
off. Usually when comic book films are made they are usually a one off and do
not incorporate other storylines for the characters or are graphic novels (most
popular). Marvel studios had found an amazing way that actually worked,
although it did take time to develop (four years) http://goo.gl/f3LEj.
They started out with introducing characters in their own films; Iron Man,
Thor, Hulk, and Captain America; then assembled them all within one film that
was a huge success. In each film there was an overlap of each movie in to the
other and had a running story line leading up to the Avengers movie.
Recently
I have come across a new discovery from one of my favorite directors and how
all his films, though unrelated, have certain characters from each of his films
that are related in some way. Quentin Tarantino has subliminally found a way to
connect all of his films in a fashion unknown to casual moviegoers but
noticeable, as discovered, by the most hardcore fans http://goo.gl/W0hNz. With his most recognizable
films Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, and Inglorious Basterds he
connects brothers, fathers and sons, even former partners all working on
different things. In Death Proof, Kill
Bill 1&2, and From Dusk till Dawn they all have the same lawman to carry
out the investigations.
This
is something that I inspire to do in my films and just opened my eyes to how
talented these filmmakers are and how they keep there world fresh and
interesting while keeping familiar aspects be known to only them and very keen
movie watchers.
